The theme for 2018 is "beating plastic pollution".
This day is also known as "the people's day" according to UN, as each and every one had the right to keep his/her environment clean and conducive for living. This can be an individual, community base approach or with the help of the government in one way or the other.
According to the theme, plastic dumping around us, I.e in houses, schools, commercial avenues, cities, etc should be prohibited as these help in polluting our environment and even when picked and dump in landfills it's still dangerous as in the long run it end up polluting the soil and hence our water bodies.
According to the World Environment day website, "Every year, up to 13 million tons of plastic leak into our oceans, where it smothers coral reefs and threatens vulnerable marine wildlife. The plastic that ends up in the oceans can circle the Earth four times in a single year, and it can persist for up to 1,000 years before it fully disintegrates."
This is how dangerous it is to dump plastic any how as the tendency for it to degrade takes years to do so.
The is a general saying, if one can't reuse these plastic let him refuse using them. Why using something knowing you will use it once and dump it (though I know difficult). And after using them we should make sure we adequately dispose them correctly.
Recommendations:
To the community, To individual and to the appropriate ministry responsible for waste disposal in different countries, they should all immobilize themselves to keep the environment clean and conducive for living, not only for the proper development of the area but also for a healthy living as cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Together let's fight against environmental pollution for a better environment.
